Family FOS program
The annual Friends of Scouting campaign is an opportunity for communities, businesses and families to support the Scouting Movement in Central Indiana. Units are encouraged to sign up for a Family FOS presentation to further the scouting cause. Scouting is such an important organization for our youth, even more so in today's fast paced lifestyles. Help keep us strong and moving forward!
The advancement of Scouting in Central Indiana would not be possible without the generosity and commitment of thousands of alumni, volunteers, donors, and friends who have been inspired by Scouting's impact on youth and our community. Those people all make up Friends of Scouting, and whether you donate $5, or $500, each and every donation is important! The success of Iron Horse District and our council is based on that generous financial support. Donations to Friends of Scouting support, among other things:
- Funding of the council's assistance programs for at-risk youth – over $150,000 provided in 2013;
- Regular maintenance of facilities and equipment at our seven council camps – like Camp Bear Creek;
- Providing insurance to cover the council's members and property;
- Training adult volunteers on how to be better leaders for our youth members;
- Operation and staffing of five council service centers conveniently located throughout Central Indiana—like the Hagerstown Scout Office.
In Iron Horse district, over $9,000 in assistance was provided to 100 plus youth to join Scouting, purchase a uniform and/or attend camp last year. We expect it to be even more in 2014.
During the months of January through April, each Pack, Troop, Team, and Crew is asked to hold a "Family" Friends of Scouting presentation. This presentation by a volunteer explains to parents how our district and council is financed and educates them about our mission, services, facilities, and the "true cost" of Scouting
Please sign up today!
