National Jamboree Frequently Asked Questions

How many people get to go to the Jamboree?

Right now the council has 6 troops that will be made up of four individual patrols.  There are 36 youth spots and 4 adult spots for each troop.

Can a Scout still sign up to go?
Yes!  The last time this was updated there were still nearly a dozen spots available.

Can I still sign up to be a leader?

Jamboree leadership has already been selected.  There are currently still openings on the National/Regional Volunteer staff though.

What does it cost?
The cost of the trip is $1,600 from the national registration fees, travel expenses like bus, hotel and side trips as well as food and Jamboree fees.

Is there financial assistance available?

Currently we are exploring what options are available from the Crossroads Council and the regional and national levels.  There will be two special popcorn sales where Scouts can earn an increased percentage to help pay for this once in a lifetime trip.

How does that special popcorn sale work?

We will run two special sales for this Jamboree.  The first will run from June15th  through August of 2009 and will be an online sale.  Scouts will get 70% commission on the through June then Trails End is changing their online sales structure to 60% commission plus prizes.  Each Scout will have the option of a personal code that they can then ask people to use to earn the commission that will go into a special Jamboree account that can be used toward council payments.  We are not sure what the 2010 special jamboree sale will be yet.

What is the timetable for payment?
$200.00 Deposit with reservation (also $10.00 Online Reservation Fee)
May 15, 2009 $500.00 First Payment (past due)
October 15, 2009 $500.00 Second Payment
March 15, 2010 $390.00 Last Payment

What if I am interested in going now?  Do I need to pay all of the past due fees right now?
No.  We can work out payments over a number of months to help make the cost more manageable.  It is recommended that you pay what you can then make a $200 per month payment until fees are up to date.

What if we sign up and we cannot make it?  What is the refund policy?

$100 of the deposit is refundable.  After that there are two options, if the council has enough interest and all of the spots are filled we will refund your payment once their fees are paid in full or if you  find someone else who can take your place you will not have to wait on a full contingent.

Why is only $100 refundable?
Because the council makes no profit off of a trip like this, it is run as a break even event and all of the money that we collect is sent to other groups or vendors to pay for things like travel, registration fees or troop equipment.

If am accepted to Jamboree staff will I be able to ride the busses with the Crossroads contingent?

No.  Many of the staff need  to be at the Jamboree before the Scouts and it is a special time for the youth to develop bonds with the other members of their new troop as they share these special experiences.

I’m already signed up for the Jamboree, when will I find out which troop I am in?

Troops have not been assigned yet.  Once the Jamboree contingent is full (or at least very close) we will make troop assignments.  We want to allow time for individual troops to be able to travel together if they gain members and we would like to avoid shifting troops once they are set if it is at all possible.
