For Parents

What are some Scouting opportunities?

Cub Scout Fun Day
Cub Scout Fun Day is a one-day event for all Scouts held in the fall, which gives Scouts and families a chance to review some of the exciting events that will take place at summer day camp.

Day Camp
Boys can experience a variety of outdoor fun during Cub Scout summer day camp. Scouts enjoy special activities geared toward their age groups. During camp, boys could be challenged with:

  • Archery
  • Camping skills
  • Fishing
  • Swimming
  • Leatherwork
  • Crafts
  • Field sports
  • And more

Special attractions are also provided each day. All provide fun for Scouts while helping them mark off achievements and work toward the next rank.

Pinewood Derby
Scouts design and build small wooden cars to race on an inclined track. This is a great opportunity for boys to work with their parents or other adults in the pack to construct a race car and compete.

Special Cub Scouting Activities
Special activities are held throughout the year for Cub Scouts and their families to enjoy, including group outings such as attending professional sporting events, overnight camping and weekend family camp.

What is the cost of Scouting?

Parents are responsible for their child's registration fees. Scouts are encouraged to obtain a Scout uniform shirt and as well as subscribe to Boys' Life magazine. Other additional costs are determined by the pack.

Packs help defray the cost of the program by working on approved fundraising projects such as popcorn sales, which can fund the pack's activities the entire year.

What is expected of me as a parent?

Scouting is a program that parents and sons can do together. This includes meeting with the boys and planning upcoming events. As a parent volunteer, there are many positions you can fill such as:

  • Den Leader
  • Den Leader Assistant
  • Committee member
  • Camp carpool driver
  • Many others

Volunteering helps strengthen the bond between parent and child. Crossroads of America Council provides training for volunteers and prior Scouting experience is not required.
