High school students practicing law …
and in this case, cameras are not only allowed in the courtroom,
but highly encouraged.
WHO: Students from Hamilton County high schools (Hamilton Southeastern, Hamilton Heights, Noblesville, Carmel, St. Theodore Guerin and Tipton) participating in the Career Exploring program.
WHAT: See high school students prosecuting and defending a murder case, judged by real Hamilton County judges, at the FINALS of the 8th annual Hamilton County Mock Trial Competition.
WHY: These teens are interested in the field of law and are learning what it means to be a lawyer by researching, prosecuting, and serving as witnesses for a mock murder trial. They are participants in the Career Exploring program, which helps young adults learn about careers by working side-by-side with professionals in those career fields. After several months of practice and six weeks of competition, it all comes down to the finals – March 6. Team and individual awards will be presented at the conclusion.
Career Exploring is a work-site based program for young men and women, ages 14-20, which provide experiences to learn about a wide variety of career occupations and acquite leadership skills. Locally, there are 63 different programs including architecture, law enforcement, fire service, computer science, health care and engineering.
