Keeping Scouting cool for the next 100 years
For the last two years, an energized and enthusiastic group of Scout volunteers and staff, led by Bill McCarthy, has been studying and thinking about what Crossroads of America Council can do to "keep Scouting cool".
The study started with a year of research led by Scouters from Eli Lilly and Company to determine the fundamental ingredient of successful Scouting. That research led to the conclusion that Scouting's continued success rests on our ability to engage in effective leadership selection and succession planning.
Using this key finding as a launch pad, the team has created a thoughtful action plan to guide central Indiana Scouting for the next five years. Enhancements to our current Scouting activities have been identified in six broad areas:
* Grow and bolster Scouting volunteers
* Ensure every staff member receives consistent coaching and development
* Help Scouts stay in Scouting longer
* Help more children enjoy the Scouting adventure
* Ensure long term stability through sufficient financial resources
* Doing the right thing and doing what we say we will
