Golden-Burke Scout Center Trainings

There are always exciting training opportunities at the Golden-Burke Scout Center.  We offer a variety of courses to fulfill your training needs, ranging from mandatory trainings, like Scoutmaster Specific, to special interest courses, like Unique Cooking.  You can by phone, or email.  If you would like more information or would like to request a course, please email volunteer@crossroadsbsa.org.  Join our course email list to stay informed about upcoming courses.

CPR/AED Training      – Tuesday, June 3 From 6 pm – 9 pm REGISTER

This course covers basic adult, child, and infant CPR and AED training. You will receive your Emergency Care and Safety Institute Certification Card the night of the course. Course fee: $10 

Planning and Conducting Scout Worship Services  - Saturday, June 14 from 10 am – 12 pm      REGISTER

Training for Scout leaders and Church leaders on how to plan and conduct worship services for Scout Sunday, Summer Camp, and special Scout meetings and Scouting events.

Cub Leader Specific Training (All-Inclusive) – Tuesday, August 12, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.  REGISTER

This course covers the specialized knowledge needed to assume a leadership role within a Cub Scout pack.  This is a required training for all Cub Scout Leaders including Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders (all levels), Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, Pack Trainer, Committee Chair, and any Committee Member.  This is an all-inclusive Cub Leader training that covers all Cub leader positions.  Any Cub Scout parent would also benefit by taking this training.

NRA Rifle and Shotgun  Instructor Training  - Monday Sept 8, 2014  through Thursday Sept 25th 2014 with range instruction occurring Saturday Sept 27th  2014. REGISTER
Classes meets twice weekly (Mon and Thurs) in Sept   (9/8, 9/11, 9/15, 9/18, 9/22, 9/25)
Class times are from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Range weekend is roughly 7:30am until 6pm

Attending this course will allow you to become ECSI First Aid Certified. Class space is limited so you must register to guarantee your spot. The $10.00 course fee can be paid upon arrival.

Youth Protection Training is required for ALL registered adults.  Learn the do’s and don’ts of working with youth, policies for the protection of youth members, and how to protect yourself from false accusation.

Advancement for Scouts with Disabilities  - Saturday, October 4, 2014, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Instructor - Sally Byer and Brad Buckhorn
Cost: $5
Any individual wishing to learn about the Scouting with Disabilities program. You will work with the various materials that the BSA has for these scouts, and discuss how to apply them to an individual scout. Also the changes that can and cannot be made in the program will be reviewed. You will learn the advancement procedures necessary for Scouts with Disabilities, helpful tools in working with these Scouts, and a variety of methods to help you ensure that all Scouts receive a quality program in your unit.

Citizenship in the World Merit Badge - November 1,

Provide the scouts an interactive experience from subject experts and world travelers to instruct the Citizenship in the World Merit Badge.

Baloo and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills Trainings - Saturday, November 8th 2014 9:00am – 5:00pm REGISTER

Any Cub Scout leader with a desire to plan and carry out an outdoor experience for their pack.  At least one adult leader must be BALOO trained in order for a Cub Scout Pack to participate in overnight camping.  This course covers everything you need to know to make your pack overnighter a fun, successful and BSA approved event.  This training is for Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Cub Leaders within a unit that covers outdoor skills that you need to teach Scouts skills leading up to First Class.

Audubon Christmas Bird Count – Saturday, December 15, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. REGISTER
Whether you are a first time bird watcher or an experienced pro, your help is needed during the 113th annual National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count.  Please see flyer for additional details.
 

Bird Study Merit Badge Session – Saturday, December 15, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. REGISTER
Scouts will earn a Bird Study Merit Badge and participate in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count.  There is no cost for this session.  Only 20 spots available so you must register.  Please see flyer for additional details.

Earn a University of Scouting Degree at the Golden-Burke Scout Center

Bachelor of General Studies Requirements

1.  Adult Youth Protection Training for your registered position.
2.  Basic Training in your registered position.
3.  Complete six (6) hours of training that are offered at the Golden-Burke Scout Center in at least two (2) different courses.

NOTE:  This is a standalone Bachelor’s degree that can only be earned at the Golden-Burke Scout Center beginning September 1, 2012.  When you complete the requirements, submit your record card to the Council to receive your degree.
