Training is one of the most important things we can do. It only takes a little bit of time but yields great results for our programs and ultimately for our scouts! Any intelligent adult can fill out an application, put on a uniform and do a decent job in scouting, but don't our kids deserve the absolute best we can contribute? Don't know where to start? Get started here:
You must create a FREE account to take the FREE training on line and you will need your Council Card and membership ID to do so. Once you are on line where to start? On the left side of the "MYScouting" page under Training, click on E-Learning.
EVERYONE is required to take three things under the General tab: "This is Scouting", "Youth Protection Training" and "Take Youth protection quiz"
Before going any further, you are asked to take the "FAST START" training for the position for which you are volunteering.
Now take all the other E-courses that interest you. MAKE SURE TO PRINT OUT THE CERTIFICATES at the end and get them to your unit training coordinator or your the district office.
WHERE DO I GO NEXT?
The next step is to get the official training for your position. The fast start gets you started on line but to get the "TRAINED" patch you still have to take a training class the old fashioned way, in person. Check the calendar tab for round table dates, there is usually position specific training available at 6pm before the 7pm round table meeting.
University of scouting in January is a great opportunity to get scout training, take one day's worth of classes and earn a "Bachelors in Scouting" earn a Masters or a PHD in scouting also!
POW WOW is usually the first Saturday in November and is another great opportunity to take position or advanced training. Come ready to have some fun, learn something, meet some great people, and eat some great food!
Explore the Myscouting web site more, look on the District and Council calendars for training opportunities, check out the training area on the Council web site, contact our district training chair, visit your local scout store and buy the leadership handbooks and start studying! Google is your friend, there are literally hundreds of scouting web sites with training information out there!
