Ambassadors Thank you so much for your commitment to Scouting and for signing up to be an Ambassador. This is a quick reminder to follow up with the businesses where you placed the Scout Display units to ensure they have enough brochures. The window clings are now available and the scout office will be mailing them to all participating businesses for which we have an address. Additionally, if you know of businesses who cannot display the Plexiglas unit but would be willing to display a window cling, that counts too. Every little bit of promotion we can get is all good.
It appears that there are some of you out there participating in this program that have not registered yet. If you are participating by setting up displays but have not signed up yet, please go to the council web site, click on the 100 years area, find the ambassador program (please see address below) and register yourself, and the businesses that you have displays at. This does two things, first it registers you so you can get your pin and the recognition from the council for a job well done. Secondly it gives council the address of the businesses you are dealing with so they can send a thank you to them along with a window cling. Also, if you know of someone who could be an Ambassador, please forward this email on to them. And have them contact me at: dlharrison6@yahoo.com Please consider becoming an Ambassador this year for our 100th Anniversary of Scouting!
What is a Boy Scout Ambassador and why do I want to participate? The Ambassador program was developed in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of scouting. One of the main objectives set is to increase scout membership by 10% over the next 2 years. This program is a way to encourage parents, predominantly women, of young boys to get them to join the scouting program. The Ambassador is a person who understands the value of scouting and wants to help get the word out to others. It’s really quite simple to participate:
- You sign up online HERE
- Pick up the display unit and brochures – see photo- from any scout office or at your roundtables.
- Solicit businesses or organizations. Examples of locations include schools, churches, dentist and doctor’s offices, coffee shops, etc. You can solicit one or as many as you’d like. (Do you own or know someone who owns a business? That’s an easy start!)
- Check in with that location from time to time to ensure the display unit is stocked with brochures. Our goal is to have a display up the entire anniversary year but if a business will only display the unit for a shorter period of time, that’s okay too.
What do I get for participating? You will receive a special 100th Anniversary lapel pin to wear with pride that you helped the scouting movement. Indianapolis Ice and Indiana Pacers- opportunities are being filled from the Action Scout database. Indianapolis Indians- lots of opportunities here and the season will begin shortly so get those units signed up as Action Scouts. Potential for other events associated with this as well….more later when things are more finalized.
State Fair- you know about as much as I do from the last meeting. Taco Bell will be the Scout day presenting sponsor. BSA day will be Sunday, August 15 (10a-10p). There will be 32 tents as display space so we will soon be looking for commitments to occupy those spaces by units. There will also be gate displays at 3 major gates that will likely use the national Jamboree Gateways. The Venture Base 100 is confirmed but details forthcoming as well as the Legacy Project. Earth Day- BSA is partnering with Subaru to give away 1000 trees that day. Again, opportunities for scout participation abounds!! Did you know? Eiteljorg has a patch program. Don’t’ know anything about it, but this was mentioned at the meeting and I thought is warranted mention. If anyone is familiar with it and wants to share the info, let us know. Odds and ends- Ryan is going to post a bunch of merit badge opportunities on the website today or early next week. Be on the lookout! Geo Caching opportunities will be coming soon as well. More info to come when it is formalized. Thanks for all you are doing to make this a memorable 100th Anniversary year in Scouting!
