SCOUTStrong Activities Around Crossroads of America

In keeping with the underlying message of the Scout Oath, the SCOUTStrong healthy living iniatitive focuses on keeping Scouts, families and volunteers physically strong and mentally awake throughout their lives.

7th Annual SCOUTStrong Wilderness Race- November 10, 2018

Join Crossroads of America Council for the 6th Annual SCOUTStrong Wilderness Race on November 11, 2017, at Camp Belzer (6102 Boy Scouts Road, Indianapolis). The event includes a 5K run/walk weaving through historic Camp Belzer and Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park. Race proceeds directly support Crossroads of America Council’s camp scholarship fund which provides financial assistance to Scouts attending camp.

Anthem, Inc. SCOUTStrong Healthy Unit Award

Personal fitness is one of the aims of Scouting. To show a commitment to this value and earn the Anthem, Inc. SCOUTStrong Healthy Unit Award, follow three healthy practices at all meetings and gatherings:

  • Snack Smart: Serve fruits and vegetables, when you have snacks (three meetings)
  • Drink Right: Make water the main beverage (six meetings)
  • Move more: Include 15 minutes of fun physical activity (nine meetings)

Scouts can earn the Anthem, Inc. SCOUTStrong Healthy Unit Award with their den, pack, troop, or crew

SCOUTStrong PALA Challenge

The SCOUTStrong Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) Challenge will add activity to your life, and reward you when you do. To earn the SCOUTStrong PALA Challenge Award, participants are required to meet a daily activity goal of 30 minutes a day for adults and 60 minutes a day for youth under age 18 for at least five days a week, for six out of eight weeks.

SCOUTStrong Fitness Event Participation

Scouts and volunteers who participate in any non-Scout run/walk of 5K or greater will receive a free SCOUTStrong t-shirt by showing the event receipt at any council Scout Shop. We hope to see you wear the SCOUTStrong shirt during these events, displaying your Scouting pride. Thank you to the Indiana National Guard for
sponsoring the cost of this program!

Crossroads of America Council has commitment to support the mission of Jump IN for Heatlhy Kids, and we pledge to do our part to inspire children, youth and their families to lead healthy lives in our community.  

  • We will serve healthy meals, snacks and beverages at our gatherings.
  • We will give our youth people opportunities to play and be active when they are with us.
  • We will teach our young people to make healthy choices, eat nutritious foods and be physically active.
  • We will encourage parents and caregivers to promote healthy habits at home.

We pledge to be a place where children and their families have real opportunities to make healthy choices in a healthy environment.

The SCOUTStrong Healthy Living Initiative integrates active lifestyles, healthy eating, and emotional fitness into everything that the Boy Scouts of America does through alliances, campaigns, and updated programs.
